If there is any body who wish to help me to solve some problems in understanding a broad crested weir, I shall be very much grateful.

My problem is to measure the discharge of a small/medium size stream coming out of a forest. I wish to use an existing structure as a weir. Problem is to identify whether its height is too high or not. It surely go above the critical height.

The structure spans across the entire stream and water goes above the crest.

    Thank you in advance

    Hello Chamila,

A broad crested wier's heigh is determined by knowing the river width, flow rate, and depth. If you know these, you can calculate the minimum height of the wier.

    Thanks,
    Derrick
